Manuscript Services
Journal Selection
Journal selection is an often overlooked factor in manuscript rejection. Thus, choosing the best audience to your paper is not only crucial to successful publication, journal selection informs the composition of the manuscript. For these reasons, we highly recommend writing manuscripts with both the readership and the aims and scope of the journal in mind.
We provide recommendations for 3-5 journals. as well as a report that includes the journal name, impact factor, aims and scope, article types, previous papers published on similar topics, and our rationale for choosing each journal.
Language Editing
Poor presentation is responsible for approximately 25% of manuscript rejections. Errors in language, syntax, and terminology often obscure the research being presented. Language editing focuses on improving word choice, grammar, punctuation, spelling, verb tense, syntax, sentence-level flow and clarity, consistency, and the appropriate use of terminology. This service is ideal for scientific manuscripts, dissertations, book chapters, and myriad other technical documents.
We have extensive experience editing scientific manuscripts written by non-native English speakers and have edited >750 scientific manuscripts and other technical documents. If necessary, we can provide a language editing certificate if necessary. This service can also include journal formatting and cover letter preparation upon request.
Developmental Editing
Developmental editing is an in-depth and substantive editing service performed by expert, PhD-level science editors that goes beyond basic language editing to improve issues such as overall focus, clarity, organization, and logical flow, and provides constructive and critical feedback on aspects such as the presentation of the main argument, the clarity of the implications, and potential shortcomings and inconsistencies.
Revisions are thoroughly explained using comments within the document. Suggestions for substantial changes are included both in the comments and in an extensive editor's report to highlight overarching issues and provide constructive advice to improve both your writing as well as your chances of acceptance. Developmental editing is also appropriate for myriad other technical documents in which clarity, flow, organization, and consistency are paramount.
Writing Services
We routinely collaborate with researchers, physicians, and authors in industry to write scientific manuscripts, using their data as the nucleus of the manuscript. This process starts out with an initial meeting to discuss the data, as well as the overall focus and the main argument, which serve as the backbone of the paper. We will then create a whiteboard to map out the direction of the paper.
This service can be combined with Research and Analyses or Illustration Services to fill in any gaps in the manuscript.

Technical Writing
As an editor and writer, I have edited and/or written manuscripts, grants, manuals, business plans, conference papers, book chapters, faculty applications, and presentations from a wide variety of fields (e.g., virology, soil sciences, bioenergetics modeling, agriculture, forestry, plant physiology and genomics, molecular biology, ecology, biochemistry, marine biology, environmental science, zoology, nanotechnology, medical imaging, public health, pharmacogenomics, cardiology, and diabetes and cancer research).
Analyses
I can assist with journal selection and have extensive experience addressing reviewer feedback and incorporating reviewer feedback into draft content. Lastly, I am also familiar with/proficient in a variety of Microsoft- and Adobe-based programs, image manipulation programs for creating and improving figures, bioinformatics software programs for sequence data analysis, reference management software programs such as Zotero and Endnote, and various editorial style guides.
Figure Development
I have an eye for design and for visualizing data. Combining both my backgrounds in art and science, I create visually appealing figures using a variety of programs depending on the nature of the figure and the data being conveyed. I can use programs such as iTOL, Geneious Prime, BioRender, Canva, Excel, and Tableau to create graphs, plots, or figures in virtually any field. Lastly, I can use image manipulation software to edit, modify, or manipulate any image or figure to optimize the presentation of your information.
